Working with senior executives to help them think through challenges and opportunities, providing objective guidance and stimulating thinking; working at the whiteboard to lay out plans; acting as a sounding board and challenger. Thinking through how to effectively engage with stakeholders and bring them on board
Example: For the VP Procurement at a $15bn business unit, brainstormed on designing a category management pilot program on 4 key spend categories to demonstrate the potential value of a broader adoption of principles. Pilot flagged savings opportunities in excess of $70M and fed into an enterprise wide deployment of category management
Facilitating tailored collaborative working sessions with executives and their direct reports that can cover a range of topics – visioning and strategy development and alignment, program planning, program governance and project gate reviews, or training for strategic procurement
Example: For the Procurement Leadership team of a $20bn global consumer products company, facilitated a working session to segment spend categories into global, regional or local category management as a basis for the new global operating model design
Conducting strategic or confidential projects, with an eye to aligning with the overall business and functional strategies; for example developing or reviewing category strategies; designing sourcing programs; developing savings tracking methodologies; designing and building change management plans including communications; operating model and organizational design; policy; and technology roadmaps
Example: For the CPO, reviewed the existing organizational structure for category management and sourcing and based on spend profiles and sourcing activities made recommendations to re-assign categories to balance workload and improve execution
For executives that are leading major procurement systems deployments and/or functional transformations – serving as an objective third party reviewer to assess plans, resourcing, governance, program management, and performance tracking, and providing guidance on improvement opportunities
Example: A large US conglomerate was deploying a corporate wide sourcing program aimed at leveraging the combined scale of the enterprise and bringing incremental savings - but the program was struggling to deliver incremental value. I worked with the team to establish an improved governance structure, focus on real areas of opportunity, streamline reporting, push through key decisions, and manage down costs to align to the opportunity
Example: For the CPO, reviewed the technology assessment, proposed roadmap and business case for a replacement of P2P systems that had been completed by a third party, and provided guidance to improving the recommendations by (1) conducting tailored use cases to assure solution capability, and (2) setting a more realistic resource requirements plan and budget for the end to end deployment
